A Diver's
Christmas Wish List By Bonnie J. Cardone
Ever been kissed by a dolphin? Even high level CEOs are brought to their knees by this experience! The UNEXSO Dolphin Dive takes place in open water off Grand Bahama Island in the Bahamas. Guests kneel on the sandy bottom and the dolphins come to them one by one, performing several behaviours in response to hand signals, learned in a briefing before the dive. One of these behaviours is the kiss. Guests also get to touch and feed the dolphins and be twirled around by them in mid-water. Every diver will treasure this exciting up close and personal experience. The UNEXSO Shark Dive is a high adrenaline open water encounter (with safety divers hovering nearby and an old hyperbaric chamber behind guests). The main attraction is wild Caribbean reef sharks but all sorts of marine life arrives for the feedingstingrays, groupers and clouds of yellowtail snappers, to name a few. The food is dispensed by a diver wearing a stainless steel chainmail suit. The sharks cruise in and out, passing plenty close for photos. For more information on these dives, see the web sites at www.unexsodolphins.com or www.unexsosharks.com. You can also call (800) 992-3483 or (954) 351-9889.
The Tusa Platina Hyperdry (M-21) is a goggle type mask that has a soft, crystal clear silicone skirt with a double feather edge for a sure seal. The polycarbonate frame comes in seven colours and has a unique and refreshing design. You have to look for the purge, which isn't in the nose pocket but on the bottom left side of the skirt, under the lens. To purge water, tilt your face slightly to the left and blow gently through your nose.
![]() Corrective lenses can be installed in the Platina Hyperdry in diopters ranging from -1.5 to -8.0. For more information see your Tabata USA dealer, or for the name of one near you, call (562) 498-3708 or fax (562) 498-1390.
The Ikelite Digital Light Meter could be the perfect gift for the photographer in your life. It is the only amphibious digital
light meter we know of. Compact and lightweight, it is five inches long, three inches wide and one and one-quarter inches deep.
It weighs eight ounces. The meter is powered by one AA alkaline battery and checks the power each time it is turned on. This
meter can be used both topside and underwater (to 200 feet) and measures both ambient and flash light. To save battery power, it
shuts off automatically after about five minutes of inactivity.
For the exact specifications of the Ikelite Digital Light Meter, check out the web site at www.ikelite.com, or for the name of an Ikelite dealer near you, call (317) 923-4523.
Mystified by f/stops, apertures, shutter speeds and ISOs or simply wondering why your photos don't turn out as well as you think they should? Learn everything you need to know and have lots of fun doing it in a Cathy Church photo course. A high school biology teacher in a past life, Cathy's been teaching U/W photography for decades and is a master at it. Since the courses take place at Cathy Church's U/W Photo Centre at Sunset House on Grand Cayman Island, you'll also get a tropical vacation in one of the world's top diving locations. For more on the Church courses, see her web site, www.cathychurch.com or e-mail cathy@cathychurch.com. You can also call (345) 949-7415 or fax (345)949-9770.
A photograph can't do the Force Fin Tan Deltas justice; they are beautiful. Made of a Uniroyal Chemical liquid-cast
prepolymer called Vibrathane, they look like giant pieces of hard candy cast in the form of a fin and come in red, blue, green, purple and Day Glo yellow. The material is remarkably resistant to scratches and the fins won't deform if you forget and leave them out in the sun. While the Tan Deltas are works of art, "pretty is as pretty does" make no mistake, they are serious swimming machines. Admittedly, these fins are not for everybody. Designed to be used with a flutter kick, they may take some getting used to. They're not made by the hundreds so you won't see them in your local dive store; for more information on the Tan Deltas (each pair is signed by the designer, Bob Evans), check out the web site at www.forcefin.com; e-mail info@forcefin.com or call (800) Fin Swim
or (805) 966-9628.
