Canadian deep diver sets world record
On Thursday, April 29, Kirk Krack, originally from Canada, now residing on Grand Cayman in the British West Indies, set a new world free diving depth record. The record was set in a new category: "constant ballast, DPV-assisted breath-hold dive." Riding a Farallon Mk7 DPV, Krack cruised down the North Wall of Grand Cayman to a depth of 250 ft./76m in just over 2 minutes. This was the first time a diver propulsion vehicle (DPV) has ever been used to set any kind of official depth record. The record was verified by the International Association of Free Divers (IAFD) and run under guidelines published by CMAS. Krack did all his training for the event at Divetech, a full service diving centre on the north end of Grand Cayman. Krack is an employee of Divetech and teaches recreational and technical scuba diving He is also a Senior Instructor Trainer for the International Association of Free Divers (IAFD).
